About the artist  
   
  Ken Zier is today regarded as one of the most important artist on the modern Marine art scene, with many collectors all over the world. His paintings are for the most part simple atmospheric depictions on the weather's effect on the sky and the sea. Beach scenes and calm paintings of the coastline, often painted against the light with a low hanging suns glimmer in the the sea. Another popular motif is the evening and night seascapes.

He was born in 1968 and has been a professional artist since 1995. Since his childhood he and his family have been closely connected to the sea and maritime environments. As the grandchild of the Marine Painter Wolmer Zier and with a distinct talent for painting, very early Ken felt a desire to continue the tradition of realistic marine painting. For generations his family has been keen yachtsmen and pen and paper was always part of the baggage on the summer journeys.

 

 

Ken Zier has over the years been commissioned large projects including Hempel for whom he has been the artist behind the traditional Hempel Ship calendar for 6 years. In addition, Ken Zier has had works exhibited at the highly acclaimed annual exhibition for Maritime Art under the Royal Society of Marine Artist in London. Also, In 2012 he was in the United States on the "33rd. International Maritime Exhibition which took place at the Mystic Seaport Gallery Museum north of New York.

In 2013 Zier was involved in the project Oneman-Onebeach, where the artist painted a piece of work a week from the same beach, a total of 52 paintings over a year. The project gained much media attention and was established in collaboration with the Danish National Park Molsbjerge, which also supported the project financially.

In 2015 he embarked on a project around the peninsula Helgen├Žs, not far from the artist's own home. For the two projects, Ken Zier received in February 2017 the Arts Council's award in Syddjurs Kommune.
