The Danish painter Ken Zier has gradually established his name as an important international maritime artist, who is permanently affiliated with galleries in a large number of countries.

Ken Zier’s paintings are, for the most part, simple atmospheric images of the weather’s changing impact on sky and sea. Beach pictures and quiet shores of the coast, motifs painted in the backlight of the low sun’s “games” in the sea and the much sought after evening and night scenes.

Born in 1968, Ken Zier has been a professional artist since 1995. From childhood, he has been closely linked to the maritime through the family who are avid sailors and he is the grandson of Løkken painter Wolmer Zier who also had love for the sea in his motives.

“Sitting down and painting a painting in nature was previously quite a natural thing for many artists. Today, it’s close to being forgotten.”

Ken Zier has over the years carried out a large number of ordering tasks, among other things. for Hempel for whom he has been the artist behind the traditional Hempel Ship Calendar for 6 years. In addition, works by Ken Zier have been seen at the highly acclaimed annual censored exhibition for maritime art under the Royal Society of Marine Artist in London. In 2012 he was also in the US on “33trd. International Maritime Exhibition ”at the museum Mystic Seaport Gallery north of New York.

In 2013, Zier was present with the book and the exhibition project Oneman-Onebeach, where the artist painted a work a week from the same beach, A total of 52 paintings over a year. The project received a lot of media attention and was created in collaboration with the Danish National Park Molsbjerge, which also supported the project through its foundation.

Again in 2015, it became a project around the peninsula Helgenæs, not far from the artist’s own home. For the two projects, Ken Zier received in February 2017 the Visual Arts Prize in Syddjurs Municipality.
